Early Bird Tuition

This class is available for parents who need an earlier start. Children can arrive as early as 7:45. The children can choose from a variety of unstructured activities in this mixed age group class. Children are brought to their regular classes at 9:00am. We will only take children who are 18 months or older in this class.

Our Philosophy

The Preschool & Mother’s Day Out program of the First United Methodist Church of Temple is an extension of the total ministry of the church, serving not only the families of the church, but also the entire community.

It is a learning center concerned with the whole child, where in a relaxed, tension-free environment, the children are encouraged to explore, discover, create, and communicate while developing a positive self concept that will foster a never-ending desire to learn.

Parents and school must share the responsibility if the child is to accomplish his/her optimum in the areas of spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and cultural development. In accordance with this belief, we encourage parents to familiarize themselves with the entire Preschool & Mother’s Day Out program and particularly their child’s group.

Chancel Choir
Our Chancel Choir is for adult singers and provides music for the 11:00 am traditional worship each Sunday.  The choir meets for rehearsal each Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Choir Room.  Child care is provided for those who need it on the first floor of the main building.

The Wesley Choir
The Wesley Choir is also for adult singers and provides the music for the 8:30 worship service each Sunday.  Rehearsal begins at 8 a.m. each Sunday in the choir room.  Child care is available for those who need it during rehearsal, as well as during the worship service.

Welcome to FUMC Kids!

Our Children’s department has lots of exciting activities planned throughout the school year, here is a quick overview on our programs during the school year.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Meets every Sunday from 10 am to 10:45 in the children’s wing. Opportunity for children from the same grade level to come together and experience Bible stories in many different ways.

BIBLE ZONE
Is our Wednesday afternoon program, that starts at 3:45pm – 5:15pm and is followed by children choirs. Ages 4 years to 5th grade participate in a variety of activities that focus on building a meaningful relationships with family, friends and most importantly, Jesus Christ.

PRAYER & SHARE
Is an activity lead by Cindy Goodfellow, which includes all 3rd – 5th grade students sharing joys, concerns in a  group setting, helping each other to learn how to
improve their faith skills. Prayer & Share is held once a month during the school year from 5:30- 6:30PM.

PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Is an opportunity for Parents to enjoy dinner and a movie or just a quiet evening at home while we entertain the children with lots of games, crafts and a movie.
Dinner is served for the children. This is open to all ages and offered from 6 to 10 pm for times a year.(Valentines, end of school year, beginning of school year and Christmas).

PUMPKIN PLACE
Is our annual fundraiser for our Mother’s Day Out program and the Children’s department, Pumpkin Place is open the last two weeks of October. Please check the calendar or call #773-5269 for exact dates.

There are many more more activities such as Mother’s Day brunch, Easter Picnic, Terrific Thursdays, VBS etc that help us connect with each other here at church. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question:  Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain? The answers are truths about the nature of God, how God acts in our world, and the relationship we can have with our loving God.  Written as a fictional tale of sadness, grace, and redemption, THE SHACK will leave you craving for the presence of God in your life.

• Christian Companions – Rm. 307 – Our members are generally age 50 and up.  Our class is led by one of the two teachers and takes biblical principles and text and applies them to daily life.  Recent books studied include the popular “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren and a study on Ephesians, as it relates to our daily lives.

• Christian Collage – Rm. 110 – Our members are age 45 and up.  We focus on short studies led by various class members.  Recent studies include : “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning and “Walk as Jesus Walked” a video series.

• Contemporary Christians – Rm. 230 – 231 – Our ages, generally are 40 and up.  We use current Bible Studies as our curriculum.  Our teachers rotate and lead the discussions.  We pray for each other and get together often for parties outside of class.  Previous studies include “12 Ordinary Men” by John McArthur and “A Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren.

• Discovery and Dialogue – Rm. 113 – We have topical and contemporary discussions where free though and open discourse are encouraged.

• Wesley Bible Class – Rm. 301 – Our Class is for anyone seeking an in-depth, discussion based on study of the Bible and prayer.

• Friendship Class – Rm. 302 and 303 – Our class is taught by two teachers.  We study the Cokesbury Adult Bible Study that covers the Old and New Testaments.

• Saints and Sinners – Rm. 222 – Our class is made up of active, mature adults who enjoy close relationships and lively class discussions led by a team of teachers.  Recent topics include “Finding God in the Questions” and “Exodus”.  Future studies will include “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis and the Gospel of Luke.

• Dawson Class – Rm. 201 – Our class has men and women ages 50 and up.  We use the Cokesbury Adult Bible Study by J. Ellsworth Kalas.  It covers the Old and New testaments.  Our teachers rotate.

• Genesis Class – Parlor - Most of our members are singles and couples with young children.  The teachings of Jesus are examined as the effect our daily lives.  We are a friendly and outgoing class that enjoys meeting new friends.

• Mustard Seed – Rm. 241 – Members of our class are mostly ages 30 – 50, couples and singles are welcome.  We study current Christian books and current bible studies.

• Faithful Connections – Rm. 309 – Members of our class are ages 35 and up.  Our discussions are on current and historic topics and how they pertain to Christianity and our daily walk as followers of Jesus Christ.  We are studying Matthew at present.

• Searchers – Rm. 111 – A melting pot of people of different ages and stages in their faith journey.  This is a discussion group where all viewpoints are welcome.

• Breath of Life – Rm. 308 – This class is young adult singles and couples, mid twenties to mid 30’s.  Their recent studies include books of the Bible and life application topics.  Periodically they meet for lunch and other social activities.
